February 27, 2026
The Technical Working Group (TWG) of the Program for Health Equity (PHE), College of Public Health, University of the Philippines Manila, convened on February 27, 2026, to refine and prioritize the program’s research agenda following its Annual Planning held earlier this year. The meeting served as an important step in aligning the program’s research directions with its realigned mandate and in strengthening coordination for the next two years.
Discussions focused on setting priority areas for FY 2026–2027, organizing research workstreams, and developing action plans for implementation. Participants highlighted the need to align research with emerging national and local health challenges while ensuring outputs remain actionable and policy-relevant, emphasizing stronger coordination across workstreams to maximize impact.
During the meeting, the Program for Health Equity also welcomed its new TWG members, Mr. Pio Asuncion and Mr. LJ Villarante from the Department of Health (DOH), who brings expertise from the Health Policy Development and Planning Bureau (HPDPB) and the Health Performance Monitoring and Strategy Management Division (HPMSMD). Their addition to the TWG is expected to further strengthen the program’s linkage with national health policy development, planning, and monitoring processes.
The meeting also provided an opportunity to explore potential grants and priority projects, including initiatives on nutrition surveillance systems, the development of health data hubs, among others.
