PHE Serves as Resource Person for DOH-EB Burden of Disease Workshop

The Program for Health Equity (PHE) was invited by the Department of Health Epidemiology Bureau (DOH-EB) to serve as resource persons during the Workshop on the National and Provincial Burden of Disease (BOD) Estimates held on July 28–31, 2026 at Belejandro Hotel, Pampanga.

The Luzon-focused workshop brought together health sector stakeholders to review and validate national and provincial BOD estimates and strengthen their use in evidence-informed health planning, priority setting, resource allocation, and health outcomes monitoring. The workshop marks the first of three regional legs, with succeeding workshops scheduled for the Visayas in September and Mindanao in October of 2026.

Discussions covered the data sources and methodology used to generate BOD estimates, provincial results on mortality, Years of Life Lost (YLLs), Years Lived with Disability (YLDs), and Disability-Adjusted Life Years (DALYs), as well as data gaps and methodological concerns. Participants also worked toward developing a Subnational Data Improvement Plan to strengthen the quality, completeness, timeliness, and utilization of local health data for disease monitoring and planning.

PHE’s participation reflects its continuing engagement in strengthening the use of subnational health data and evidence for health equity-oriented decision-making in the Philippines.
