Clip 1: Voice Recording
For the first clip, I made sure I read the script slowly and with proper diction. The recording ended up with some minimal background noise, but overall, I think it captured my voice clearly. I took 3 recordings and I chose what I thought was the best one.
Clip 2: Harmonica
For the second clip, I chose a harmonica because it's the only instrument available at the moment. I do not, in fact, play the harmonica but it was nice trying it out. As for the recording, it turned out better than the first voice recording in terms of background noise. It was recorded clearly and the sound of the harmonica masked the background noise effectively.
Setup and Preparation
For this activity, I recorded it using a microphone I bought 6 years ago, Zoom h1. I do not use it as often but I’m glad it still recorded nicely. Since Zoom h1 is a handy field recorder, it covers a wide area and captures all sorts of noise which is why I made sure the room is enclosed and that no other sources of noise are available (fan, lights, wind, etc.). I recorded inside a relatively big closet with all the windows and doors closed. I was, however, still close to the windows so minimal noise could still be heard.
The setup was fairly simple. I had to connect the Zoom recorder to my laptop using a USB connection and a microphone stand. I recorded using Logic Pro with direct monitoring turned on so that I could hear myself through the HyperX CloudX headset while recording. Through Logic Pro, I was able to adjust the volume and do a little bit of noise reduction.
Experience
Overall, I really enjoyed the recording process. It has been a while since I last recorded something so it felt nice to get back to the groove of it. I am looking forward to the activities ahead!
