Jonathan Y. Cagas, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor in the Department of Human Kinetics at the University of the Philippines Mindanao. He earned his doctoral studies at the University of Southern Queensland, where he received an Excellence Award for Doctoral Research for his project on understanding the barriers, facilitators, and motives for yoga participation among men. Apart from teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, he is also the coordinator of the UP Mindanao DHK Graduate Studies Program. His research interest is in physical activity and health, focusing primarily on understanding (1) physical activity and sedentary behaviors among Filipino children and adolescents and (2) the psychological and social factors influencing yoga and holistic movement practices. His work aims to inform public health initiatives and improve the understanding of physical activity behaviors among different populations. Jonathan is the co-leader for the development of the 2026 Philippine Report Card on Physical Activity for Children and Youth, a part of the Active Healthy Kids Global Alliance Global Matrix 5.0 Project (www.activehealthykids.org)
