Jonathan Y. Cagas is a professor and the graduate program coordinator in the Department of Human Kinetics at the University of the Philippines Mindanao. He teaches both undergraduate and graduate courses in sports and exercise psychology, tests and measurement in sports and movement science, and research methods.Â
His research focuses on physical activity and health, with a particular emphasis on two areas: (1) understanding physical activity and sedentary behaviors among Filipino children and adolescents, and (2) exploring the psychological and social factors that influence yoga and holistic movement practices. His work aims to inform public health initiatives and enhance the understanding of physical activity behaviors in various populations.
Additionally, Jonathan serves as the co-leader for the development of the 2026 Philippine Report Card on Physical Activity for Children and Youth. This initiative is part of the Active Healthy Kids Global Alliance Global Matrix 5.0 Project (www.activehealthykids.org).
