My Favorite Things
Man made things physical and digital that I find Aesthetic value in
One man made thing I found aesthetically valuable is my 9 year old ocarina. The Ocarina’s material is built from clay, it's manually carved from the inside out and tuned by hand. The glaze is an off white color with faux crack marks upon it. The sound it produces is whole and resonant that gives the ocarina a primal and ancient quality that appeals to me. Whenever I play this instrument, I think of thousands of years back across different cultures. This thought alone makes me feel connected to a past I was never born in but somehow belonged to one way or another.
A multimedia object that I find aesthetically valuable is this video of a looping soundtrack. The music composed by the talented Azali builds the soundtrack over time layer by layer, each additional timbre adding into the whole that resonates within the ambience of an underground cave. In addition to the delightful 3D seals that represent each timbre of the instrument, combined with the silly scenario of a seal band all wearing suits. The soundtrack alone brings up a feeling of melancholy yet alongside the animated seals it adds a layer of whimsy to the soundtrack, serving the title of the video.
Simple yet fun, Pet pet generator is a popular web gif maker where anyone can create a gif of your chosen image being pet by a moving hand. The generator allows you to edit the speed of your petting and the choice to edit your image’s squish factor and size. Its existence comes from the concept of cuteness aggression Whenever I use this website to create gifs of my friends, pets, and favorite characters being pet, I feel a sense of happiness and fulfillment having put into action what I cannot convey into words when I feel so much fondness for something. The need to squish something, denoting to a sensory response that I can’t do unto cute digital object, pet pet generator fullfils that for me, therefore it has aesthetic value.
