Nandito Ako by Ogie Alcasid
(Cover w/ english lyrics)
Project Statement
For my audio project, I plan to cover Mr. Ogie Alcasid’s song “Nandito Ako.” I watched different covers of it online, and they inspired me to learn how to play it on the guitar using a plucking style. I also want to experiment with my voice through harmonization and interpret the song in my own way. In addition, I hope to add a unique touch by drawing a bit of inspiration from Rob Daniel’s performance of the song at the Wish 107.5 concert and writing the second verse in english.
Through this project, I want to explore how I can express my emotions while performing this piece.
Personally, emotion is what truly drives a song—it should be felt not only in vocal delivery but also through the instruments and ambient sounds that enhance its impact. Although this is my first time producing and covering a song, I believe the challenge will help me grow as a performer and allow me to release my feelings through music.
Project Plan
Since the song is already written in Tagalog and I already have a draft of English translation of the second verse, there is no need for me to do a songwriting process anymore. What I will do first is study the instrumental arrangement or pattern of the original song to identify what I might want to adjust to match the emotions I want to express. Then, I’ll start learning the chords using the acoustic guitar, as well as how I will add some bass drum onto the track. Once I’ve become familiar with the instruments, lyrics, and the digital audio workstation (DAW), I will begin the recording process—followed by mastering to finalize the track.
Logistics
I will perform the vocals, harmonies, instruments, and ambient sounds myself. I’ll also recreate the instrumental parts by layering the sound of my acoustic guitar with VST instruments through MIDI sequencing—particularly using a virtual drum After that, I’ll do the mixing and mastering, respectively.
The area where I’ll be working on this project is my room. The walls are cemented, and the floor is made of plywood with metal support. I think the biggest challenge in this space will be the renovation noise from the floors below. Honestly, the area is only quiet at night, so to make daytime recording possible, I’m considering buying some acoustic panels online to help reduce the noise picked up by my microphone. However, I think most of the recording will still be done at night.
Production Area
Equipment
Here is the list of equipment I will be using:
Microphone:
BOYA K3 Condenser Microphone (still on the process of delivery)
Physical Instruments:
Acoustic Guitar
Speaker:
Baseus D02 Pro Headphone
Digital Audio Workstation:
Dell Inspire 15 7000 Gaming
Cakewalk Sonar
As you can see, there’s a slight difference in how I’ll record the various tracks. The vocals and the instruments will be recorded using the BOYA K3 microphone, while the ambient sounds will be recorded using my phone. While the recording methods differ, all of these tracks will be processed through Cakewalk
Signal Flow
Timetable
Here's my organized GANTT Chart for this audio project:
I plan to start recording once I receive the microphone I ordered online and learned how to play the song with the instruments I will use. I’ll probably rehearse first to familiarize myself with the process and flow. All of the tracks will be recorded in my room—except for the ambient sounds, which I plan to capture outdoors to better match the mood of my project.
Here are the tracks I think I will record for this project:
Singing vocals
Harmonies
Acoustic guitar
Bass drum (MIDI)
Ambient Sounds
The tracks listed above are what I anticipate recording as I write this. I plan to thoroughly practice using the software to achieve the results I’m aiming for, but of course, I won’t forget to rest my eyes and ears. Practice makes perfect, but rest is important too.
Recording and Mixing
Publishing
If this project turns out well, I think I will upload this to my social media accounts and also to my portfolio. Although it's my first time producing and covering a song, I hope the result please me, especially my parents.
Project Plan
I hope this project becomes the start of my journey in expressing myself through music production. It’s always been a dream of mine to produce a song and tell my story through it. I truly hope I succeed in producing and covering this project, and that I’m able to connect with listeners through the emotions the song conveys.
Aside from the house renovations, one of my main concerns is my laptop—its battery is already bloated >< I really hope it lasts until the end of the term or that I find a budget-friendly original battery online.
Despite these challenges, I want to stay optimistic. I want to accomplish this project successfully and align it with the vision I have in mind. For now, I’ll focus on familiarizing myself with the software while I wait for my microphone to arrive. I’m excited, though a little nervous and pressured, but I know that with passion, dedication, and emotion, the result will be something I can be proud of.
