ABOUT
Goal
The primary goal of the ISBRG (Integrative Systems Biology Research Group) is to facilitate the exploration of disease pathophysiology and the identification of innovative lead compounds through the utilization of diverse model organisms and advanced bioinformatic tools. Our foremost mission is to empower undergraduate students majoring in Biology, Chemistry, Medical Technology, and related sciences. We aspire to assist them in formulating their thesis topics, executing their research experiments, and effectively disseminating their findings through participation in symposia and publication opportunities.
Brief History
In 2018, Assistant Professor Nas led the C. elegans Research Group (CRG) alongside his undergraduate students majoring in BS Medtech at Far Eastern University. During the same year, he secured his initial research project, funded by the University Research Council, which focused on investigating the impact of different compounds on the innate immune response in C. elegans. This project not only supported the research endeavors of his undergraduate students but also contributed to the gradual establishment of a dedicated C. elegans research facility within the university.
Moving into 2019, Assistant Professor Nas expanded his mentoring efforts by guiding Biology majors from the University of the Philippines Manila in conducting in silico docking experiments. This engagement marked a pivotal moment in the growth of CRG, emphasizing the significance of computational and bioinformatics research in its development.
In 2020, Assistant Professor Nas conceived the idea of forming a research group dedicated to exploring a wide range of biological processes at the systems level.
Presently, the research group employs advanced computational methodologies to uncover novel insights into biological processes spanning molecular to physiological levels. Their investigations encompass a comprehensive analysis of intricate biological phenomena, employing a diverse set of model organisms including Drosophila melanogaster and Caenorhabditis elegans.
