The Iraya Mangyan is one of the eight subgroups of the Mangyan ethnic group. They reside in Occidental and Oriental Mindoro specifically, in municipalities of Puerto Galera, San Teodoro, Baco, Abra de Ilog, Paluan, Mamburao, and Santa Cruz.
They speak their own unique language, the Iraya. They also have their own ethnoastronomical beliefs and traditional climate knowledge. As the world continues to dance with the cadence of modernity, the Iraya Mangyan endures to confront dilemmas and their culture is forced to adapt, causing cultural changes.
The Iraya Mangyan people are known to be peace-loving and friendly. Anthropologically, they belong to a few groups of Filipinos with no warrior traditions as compared to other ethnic groups in the Philippines.
The Iraya Mangyan are known for their Nito-weaving skills and craftmanship. Their crafts include baskets, serving trays, bread plates, and coasters. Their traditional weaving culture has become a source of livelihood.

Rocks are used to divert water into wooden filters where small gold flakes will collect if there are any. There was only one man at the river when we went and he hadn’t had any success for the day."
