For centuries, light has been used as a metaphor for knowledge: its acquisition, dissemination, and role as guide for personal and community development. For the International Conference on Cordillera Studies logo, the Kalinga textile star motif became a fitting inspiration.
This abstracted version allows a few more symbolisms. The triangles suggest the mountains of the Cordillera region. The convergence of researchers is represented by the central quadrilateral, which subtly also stands for the four-letter acronym ICCS. The two pairs of triangles on both sides of the star resemble simplified bundles of rice, a major crop of the Cordillera region. The colored segments allude to the threads of the Kalinga textile, which served as basis of the logo design.
