Born in Calamba, Laguna in 1994, Marial Grace R. Olo started playing the piano at the age of seven in 2002. She was under the tutelage of Ms. Meriam Macalisang until she was 12 years old. She studied in Philippine High School for the Arts in 2007 where she majored in Music - Piano.
Since 2004, Marial has been joining the Annual Piano Festival by The Piano Teachers’ Guild of the Philippines (PTGP). She became a finalist in the PTGP Sonata and Sonatina Competition 2005, won the Honorable Mention Award in the PTGP Filipino and Romantic Piano Competition in 2008, joined the Beethoven Concerto Competition in July 2010, and became a semi-finalist in NAMCYA – Category B Piano in 2011. She also performed in “A Tribute to Lucrecia Kasilag” at the Rizal Park Open-Air Auditorium in 2010 and in the PTGP Best of 2011 Piano Festival at Paco Park last April 2011. Marial studied at the University of the Philippines College of Music Major in Music Education with Piano Concentration. She was under the mentorship of Prof. Pia Balasico and Prof. Augusto Espino.
Growing up as a performer, Marial developed her passion in teaching and sharing music to those who aspire to be a well-rounded musician like her. She has given music instruction at Cornerstone Academy and UP College of Music Extension Program (2015), Quirino High School (2016). For more than 10 years now, she has been giving individual piano lessons and has produced yearly recitals where her students showcase their piano skills shaped by Marial’s piano instruction. A hands-on teacher, experienced both in classroom setting and individual lessons, Teacher Marial makes sure that music learning is not limited by age and that everyone gets a chance to be good at music making.
At the start of the pandemic, she established Grace Notes Music Studio as an online music platform for her students. She is teaching both kids and adults. They conduct an annual recital featuring works from the periods of baroque, classical, romantic, 20th century, Filipino, Pop, Jazz, etc. Currently, she is employed as a senior high school music teacher at the De La Salle University Manila where she teaches music arranging and production. She is also finishing her Masters of Music - Piano Pedagogy at the UP College of Music Diliman.
