Rationale
This theme reflects the Department’s 50-year legacy of leadership in environmental and occupational health (EOH) while emphasizing its ongoing commitment to scientific rigor, ethical practice, and public service. It bridges the past and future—celebrating achievements, elevating standards of excellence, and reaffirming the Department’s service mandate to communities, workers, and the nation.
Background
For five decades, the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health has led the charge in protecting workers and the public from evolving industrial and ecological hazards. While our history is rooted in foundational safety and sanitation, today’s landscape presents more complex challenges—from climate-driven health risks to deep-seated systemic inequities. As we mark this 50-year milestone, the department remains at the intersection of tradition and transformation, evolving its mission to ensure a safer, healthier, and more just world for the generations to follow.
Objectives
To recognize key milestones, contributions, and partnerships that have shaped EOH education, research, and practice in the Philippines and the region.
To present cutting-edge findings, technologies, and evidence-based interventions addressing both persistent and emerging EOH challenges, including climate risks, pollution, and workplace hazards.
To share models, case studies, and programs that promote environmental justice, worker protection, and health equity, especially for vulnerable and underserved populations.
To engage academic institutions, regulatory agencies, LGUs, industries, and professional organizations in discussions that support improved governance, integrated policies, and capacity building for EOH at local, national, and regional levels.
To facilitate a forward-looking conversation on priority research areas, competencies, partnerships, and innovations needed to build resilient and equitable environments and workplaces for future generations.
