The Cognayan Research is a project of the UP Individual Differences Research Laboratory, one of the research laboratories under the Department of Psychology, University of the Philippines Diliman.

About Us

THE RESEARCH

At Cognayan, we explore the psychology behind groundbreaking ideas and high-level creative performance.

In collaboration with partner organizations, we invite individuals from exhibits and competitions to participate in our research.

Volunteers will have the opportunity to take part in online activities, including a Filipino personality assessment with personalized results. Participants who join our in-person scientific session at UP Diliman's Lagmay Hall will also receive compensation for their time and contributions.

OUR PURPOSE

Our mission is to better understand the unique ways of thinking that drive innovation across fields—whether in art, science, design, engineering, writing, or invention.

📌 CALL FOR ORIGINAL SONGS!

Share your sound. Get heard.

We’re inviting songwriters, producers, and musicians to submit original songs centered on the theme “Tension / Tensyon.” Whether it's emotional, social, political, or personal—interpret the theme in your own creative way and bring it to life through music.

What’s in it for you?

🎤 Selected songs will be featured at a special Listening Party at Tiny Bar QC, attended by fellow artists, music lovers, and industry insiders.

Project Timeline

September 2022: Initial Launch

The Cognayan Project officially begins, setting the foundation for groundbreaking research on creative cognition.

2023–2024: Building Collaborations

Reaching out to organizations across various creative fields, inviting them to partner with us in exploring the psychology behind original thinking and performance.

2025 – Present: Scientific Engagements Underway

The project enters an exciting phase of online surveys and in-person scientific sessions. Participants can now join research activities, contribute insights, and receive personalized assessments—and even compensation for selected sessions.

Joined a partner exhibit or competition?

We are looking for participants from partner organizations holding juried competitions for the Arts and Sciences.

Participants (18+ years old) currently residing in *Tagalog-speaking regions are invited to take part in one (1) online session and one (1) in-person session.

*Tagalog-speaking regions and cities include Metro Manila (NCR), Southern Luzon (Batangas, Cavite, Laguna, Rizal or Quezon) and Central Luzon (Aurora, Bataan, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija and Zambales).
