A CW 100 project by Group 2 of first-year BA English Students
under the guidance of Prof. Jhoanna Lynn Cruz, PhD
Pithaya is a CW 100 project by the first-year BA English (Creative Writing) students under Prof. Jhoanna Lyn Cruz, PhD.
Pithaya is the Tagalog term for dragon fruit, but in a figurative sense, it defines the unspoken yearning, a quiet ache that lingers within. It is the essence of longing— a deep, persistent desire that drives us forward, even when the path is unclear and uncertain. Like a cat known for having nine lives, who constantly seeks new opportunities, experiences, and fresh beginnings, so do we. Each life a cat lives is filled with yearning, a pursuit of something more. No matter how many times they fall, they will rise again, driven by their own will that refuses to give up.
For every risk we take, we uncover not only strings of new chances but deeper truths about ourselves. In the end, our writing becomes a testament to that journey. A living, breathing expression of resilience and hope despite all the odds we have faced.
Pithaya is not just within us; it is us—a testament to the lives we are yet to live, the stories we are yet to tell.
At some point in our lives, we all become strays, feeling lost and questioning whether we made the right choice in following a certain path. In this long arduous journey, we aim to make a dipurrence. We are BA English Major in Creative Writing Students from UP Mindanao. We launch this website to showcase our submitted outputs for the CW100 course under the paws of the guidance of Professor Jhoanna Lynn Cruz, PhD. We entered this program with little more than a desire to learn and the courage to face the doubts that haunt us daily. However, like a cat, we continue to press on. The unknown may be daunting, but it holds for something we still look forward to. In this collection, we will seek meaning in the unknown as we adore uncertainty and write to leave behind a legacy of endless beginnings.
The website was soft-launched on December 13, 2024, at the UP Mindanao CHSS Room 105, and was officially launched on January 03, 2025. The event featured excerpts of readings and several intermission performances. Witness them here:
