This database “Economics Scholarship on Kenya” highlights the authorship of Economics on Kenya from 1960 to September 2021. The data set captures authors’ names, institutional affiliations, gender, nationality (whether they are Kenyans or not) and characteristics of the journal paper – title, name of the Journal, ranking, year of publication, and JEL classification.
The database covers 9,600 papers from 421 journals and 20,000 authors. Only 4% of the authors are Kenyans; publication on Kenya is male-dominated (87% across the study period); half of the papers on Kenya are in A* and A-rated journals; and Agricultural and Natural Resource Economics is the most researched area.
