The Instrument:

UV-Vis spectroscopy is non-destructive technique, quantitative determination of solutions of transition metal ions and highly conjugated organic compounds. The absorbance (A) of a solution at a particular wavelength is determined by Beer’s Lambert Law: A = εcl, where A is the absorbance of the compound, ε is the molar extinction coefficient of the compound at a particular wavelength, c is the concentration of the compound and l is the thickness of the cell.
