Kleopatra Kathariou is a graduate of the Department of History and Archaeology of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, where she also obtained her Master’s degree and Doctorate. She undertook postgraduate and postdoctoral studies at the Archaeological Institute of the University of Marburg, the Institute of Classical Archaeology at the University of Bern, the Archaeological Institute of the University of Zurich, the German Archaeological Institute in Rome, and the Classical Art Research Centre at the Faculty of Classics of the Oxford University.
She holds the position of Associate Professor in Classical Archaeology at the Department of History and Archaeology at the University of Ioannina. She has taught and delivered invited lectures at universities in Greece and abroad. As a field archaeologist, she has participated in archaeological excavations at numerous sites in Macedonia, and, since her appointment to the University of Ioannina, she has been involved in excavations at two sites in Epirus.
Her research interests encompass ancient hermeneutics and iconography, religion, and aspects of public and private life in antiquity. Her specialized research focuses on the study of pottery workshops in the ancient Greek world. In addition, she has a scholarly interest in the organization of archaeological exhibitions, the use of ICT tools in archaeological research, and the relationship between archaeology and education.
1995: Participation in a research project and work on the creation of a databank with representations of ancient music instruments on behalf of the Museum of Ancient, Byzantine and Post-byzantine Musical Instruments situated in Thessaloniki
