Loukas Vlahos
Loukas Vlahos has served as a Professor of Astrophysics in the Department of Physics at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH) from 1986 to 2016. He studied Physics at AUTH and pursued postgraduate and doctoral studies at the University of Maryland, College Park, USA. From 1980 to 1985, he worked as a researcher at the University of Maryland. In 1986, he joined the academic staff at AUTH, where he was later promoted to Professor.
He retired in 2016 and has since remained actively involved in research programs. His scientific interests include plasma physics, high-energy astrophysics, turbulence in space and laboratory plasmas, the dynamics of complex systems, and particle diffusion and acceleration.
He has served as scientific coordinator and principal coordinator in national and European research programs and led the research group “Non-linear Processes in Astrophysical and Laboratory Plasmas” at AUTH. In addition, he has served as President of the Hellenic Astronomical Society and as Director of the Laboratory of Astronomy at AUTH.
He has supervised five doctoral dissertations and more than forty-five diploma theses and has taught courses including Calculus, Plasma Physics, Introduction to Astronomy, and Astrophysics.
