I am inspired by the philosophy of pragmatism and the methods of ethnography to research contemporary social issues. I am concerned with attempts by persons and societies to secure health and well-being in the context of Socio-Cultural and Ecological factors, contexts, and uncertainties. Some research areas of interest include Public health, Medical Anthropology, Mental health and well-being, Marginality, Multispecies ethnography, Human Centered Design, and Sustainability.
Before joining the University of Hyderabad, I was a Professor of Social and Behavioural Sciences at the Indian Institute of Public Health, Hyderabad. I have about 23 years of work experience in the social development sector and academia.
I hold adjunct appointments at IIT Hyderabad, Indian Institute of Public Health, Shillong, and Dalla Lana School of Public Health, University of Toronto. Earlier I was an Honorary Fellow, of the School of Social and Political Science, University of Edinburgh, and an adjunct faculty member, of the School of Medical Sciences, University of Hyderabad.
