Gather your team and participate in the 3rd UOE Innovation Challenge
Applications are now open for the 3rd UOE innovation challenge on Climate Smart Innovations for Sustainable Development.
The innovation challenge will be opened for students to form teams and apply until 15 September 2025
Guidelines:
Participants can work individually or in teams (up to 4 members per team, preferably from different departments and schools).
Submissions must focus on climate-smart innovations and demonstrate how they contribute to sustainable development.
Entries should include a detailed description of the innovation, its potential impact, and an implementation plan.
Participants are encouraged to consider scalability, feasibility, and sustainability of their solutions.
Submissions must be original work and adhere to ethical standards.
Theme
The theme of this Innovation Challenge is "Climate-smart Innovations for Sustainable Development."
The objective of this challenge is to foster creativity and innovation among students while addressing climate change challenges. Participants will have the opportunity to develop digial solutions that have a positive impact on society, promote sustainability, and contribute to the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG13: Climate Action.

Applicants must be students from University of Eldoret
Teams of up to 4 students from different disciplines/schools/departments
Gender balance will be an added advantage
Can ideate and demonstrate how digital innovations can be used to address social problems
Applicants must be available on 10-12 October 2025 for the pitching training, and on 15 October 2025 for the pitching festival.
Successful 5 teams must develop prototypes and exhibit them during the 7th UOE Innovation Week from 15th-17th October 2025
Registration deadline for participating teams 15 September 2025 at 5 pm
Training on pitching 10-12 October 2025
Voting for teams 15 October 2025
Exhibition of prototypes 15-17 October 2025
Pitching competition 15 October 2025
Announcing winners and Awards to winning teams 17 October 2025
Incubation of winning teams January to May 2026
Evaluation Criteria
Submissions will be evaluated based on the following criteria:
Team composition
Innovation and Creativity: Uniqueness and originality of the digital solution.
Impact: Potential social, environmental, and economic impact of the innovation.
Feasibility: Practicality, scalability, and sustainability of the proposed solution.
Presentation: Clarity, coherence, and persuasiveness of the submission.
