ABSTRACT
Distance education is becoming more important in universities and schools due to the pandemic that has hit the whole world COVID19. Because of this there has been an increased interest in the use of modern information and communication technologies as a means of facilitating learning in higher learning institutions particularly UNZA. The interest in learning management systems in schools is on a rise and choosing the most appropriate and reliable LMS is not an easy thing. The University of Zambia has endorsed the use of open source learning management systems such as Moodle, Canvas overview and Google classroom. Implementation of this tends to be difficult and Teachers in schools often find themselves altering their needs to suit the LMSes of choice. Selecting the appropriate LMS should start with identifying the learning objectives and strategies in order to find the suitable open source LMS that will suit the initial and substantial requirements. Therefore, this document will experimentally investigate the different features available in the three LMSes, by evaluating their comparative usefulness and usability and thereafter a comprehensive conclusion and recommendations will be made.
