Model United Nations (MUN) is an opportunity for delegates to engage in a simulation of what diplomats actually do at the UN! From formal procedure to lively debates, MUN gives you the opportunity to live out your delegate dreams!
The chart to the right provides a visual and written explanation on how procedure works in a typical MUN Committee. The panel on the left shows the order of speakers during general debate phase. Every amendment begins with a proposer, who rallies on fellow delegates to sign on as seconders and signatories.
The different phases of the amendment phase are outlined on the right. There are five phases, from proposition down to right of reply. These phases will repeat until all amendments are exhausted or committee time is over.
If you are still confused on procedure, please refer to the How to MUN video in your delegate drive, send a question to the Educations Hotline, or talk to a Chair.
Most importantly, remember to have fun! At the end of the day, we are all here to learn from one another and have a good time. Don't worry if the procedure doesn't make sense yet. You're here to learn - that's what NZMUN is all about!
