Application Guidelines

The UNLV Pipe-UP program is no longer accepting applications.

UNLV Pipe-UP includes curricular and co-curricular activities that are aligned with both student development and career stage to engage them in increasing levels of research. Additionally, the program teaches participants the scientific method and its value, offers funded and mentored research and professional development to improve preparedness, enhances STEM identity building, increases persistence, and builds self-efficacy and competency for a successful undergraduate and graduate career.

UNLV's Office of Undergraduate Research (OUR), Howard R. Hughes College of Engineering (CoE), and College of Sciences (CoS) aim to accept two cohorts of 20 first-year engineering and science students to participate in a 4-year holistic program to improve their sense of belonging, self-efficacy, persistence, and the transition from undergraduate to graduate school.

Upon successful maintenance of eligibility and program requirements, participants will be awarded a monetary stipend of $2,500 during Year 1, $3,000 during Year 2, $4,500 during Year 3, and $2,250 during Year 4.

Students must have had a minimum high school GPA of 2.75, with 3.0 GPAs or above having preference.

OUR encourage the members of underrepresented groups (e.g., Alaska Natives, Native Americans, African Americans, Hispanics, Native Hawaiians and other Pacific Islanders, Persons with Disabilities, students from low-income families, students who are first-generation college-going (neither parent graduated from college), non-traditional students, female students in engineering) to apply.
