There are 3 classes that are designed specifically for FOCUS students. Each of these classes are required in order to fulfill the certificate requirements. Please note that these courses are not enrolled through MyUNLV, so they will not be reflected in students MyUNLV accounts.
*Enrollment for each of these courses is done through Continuing Education and students will need to register through a course specific link. This link will be emailed to parents and students as soon as it becomes available each semester.
Tuesday/Thursday from 4:00PM - 5:20PM
Offered every Fall semester
Required for First Year FOCUS students
Topics include: self-advocacy, sex education, appropriate relationships, building independence, etc.
Tuesday/Thursday from 4:00PM - 5:20PM
Offered every Spring semester
Required for First Year FOCUS students
Topics include: career interest survey, building a resume, job searching, mock interview skills, etc.
*Fridays from 2:00PM - 4:00PM
Offered during both Spring and Fall semesters - all students required to complete at least 2 semesters of an internship.
Students will take course in conjunction with a weekly internship (minimum 5 hours per/week)
Required for Second Year FOCUS students and any student placed into an official internship in the program.
*Only meets for 10 Fridays out of the semester, meeting schedule provided prior to start of class.
Placement sites are determined based on student interest and availability.
Includes: real-time internship experience in on campus placement, individual job coaching during internship hours, overview and discussion of employability skills within the workplace.
