Program Director
Dr. Rei Serafica is a tenured Associate Professor at the UNLV School of Nursing, a board-certified Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, a Certified Nurse Educator, and is a Program Director of the Bridge to Behavioral Health (B2H) Program. His research focuses on acculturation and its relationship to chronic diseases among immigrant populations. His pioneering work has led to the development of the concept of dietary biculturalism, which examines the phenomenon of immigrants consuming unhealthy traditional foods alongside unhealthy Western diets during the post-migration phase, thereby increasing their risk for food-related chronic illnesses. He teaches across all academic levels within the School of Nursing. As a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, he specializes in graduate-level mental health courses. In addition, he teaches in the Ph.D. program, where he serves as a chair and advisor for doctoral students. Dr. Serafica has mentored numerous students and faculty at various stages of their careers.
Co-Program Director
Dr. Hyunhwa “Henna” Lee is an Associate Professor with Tenure and the Interim Associate Dean for Research at the UNLV School of Nursing, and is also a Program Director of the Bridge to Behavioral Health (B2H) Program. Dr. Lee mentors and chairs both Ph.D. and DNP nursing students for their scholarly projects and also works with undergraduate and graduate students from multiple disciplines, including medicine, psychology, health science, life science, and computer science. Additionally, she teaches both undergraduate and graduate students for evidence-based practice and research in nursing, informatics, and quality improvement as well as nursing theories and family health promotion. Dr. Lee studies biobehavioral mechanisms for recovery from chronic mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) or concussion, using peripheral epigenetic markers and digital biomarkers for post-injury symptoms, such as cognitive declines, psychosocial problems, and problems with walking and physical balance and eye movement.
Joseph Guerrero-Lopez serves as Program Specialist for the HRSA-funded Bridge to Behavioral Health (B2H) Program, supporting the implementation and coordination of workforce development activities aligned with the goals of the Behavioral Health Workforce Education and Training (BHWET) initiative. In this role, he supports trainee recruitment, selection, onboarding, and program operations to ensure fidelity to BHWET objectives, including preparation of a culturally responsive, interprofessional behavioral health workforce equipped to serve underserved and at-risk populations. With over 10 years of experience in federally funded health research and academic program administration at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and National Institutes of Health (NIH), Joseph brings expertise in grant compliance, data tracking, evaluation support, and stakeholder coordination. He works closely with faculty, clinical partners, and trainees to support experiential learning, mentorship engagement, and reporting requirements consistent with HRSA guidelines.
