2021 UNLV GenCyber Camp

Camp Dates

The camp starts on Monday July 26 and ends on Friday July 30, 2021.

Daily Schedule (Varies slightly daily)

  • 8:30am - 9:00am: Check-in and light breakfast

  • 9:00am - 12:15pm: Morning program (Morning snack around 10:30am)

  • 12:15pm - 1:00pm: Lunch

  • 1:00pm - 4:00pm: Afternoon program (Afternoon snack around 3:00pm)

  • 4:00pm - 4:30pm: Daily summary and quiz for prizes

Highlights of the program

  • Free breakfast, lunch and morning/afternoon snacks. There is no cost to attend.

  • Lots of daily and team prizes.

  • Notebook computer will be available to each attendant.

  • Knowledge in cybersecurity. Students will learn fundamental cybersecurity concepts through lectures and demonstrations.

  • Hands-on cybersecurity activities. Students will experience with exciting hacking tools and techniques. They will be engaged in team competitions for attacks and defenses.

  • Group activities on critical infrastructure protection.

  • Guest speeches. Cybersecurity experts from top cybersecurity organizations will present the current status of cyber attacks and defenses.

  • Meeting with GenCyber Alumni. Previous GenCyber campus will visit the camp on Friday July 30 and discuss their activities in Cybersecurity.

Lectures and Labs

The lectures will cover the following topics.

  1. Internet and networking

  2. Cybersecurity concepts

  3. Online behavior and human factors

  4. Cybercrime and protection

  5. Cryptography and passwords

  6. Social and personal computer security

  7. Wireless and mobile security

  8. Scavenger hunting

  9. Cybersecurity in critical infrastructure

Event Location and Driving Direction

The UNLV GenCyber camp will be held at UNLV SEB (Science and Engineering Building). It is at the north side of the UNLV Campus. Please refer to the direction on this page (https://www.unlv.edu/maps/seb). A large outdoor parking lot (Lot P) is located at the north side of the building off Cottage Grove ave. Parents can drop students at the north entrance facing the parking lot. If students are driving a car, they can park at the same parking lot. Parking permits will be distributed on the first day for self-drivers.

The event will be held at the classroom (SEB 1243) on the first floor everyday. Registration desk will be located in front of the classroom.

Preparation Before the Camp

1. As part of our GenCyber Camp, we will be using a website for additional learning and fun activities. Please register at https://gencybercoin.tk/register/ before you come to camp on Monday, July 26.

2. If you have not fully vaccinated, take a COVID-19 test between July 21 to 24 and upload the negative result on the registration site.
