Dr Srood Omer Rashid
Head of Chemistry Department/ College of Education
Senior Lecturer
Chemistry Department/ College of Science / University of Sulaimani
Qualifications:
1) PhD Biological Chemistry, The University of Manchester- UK
2) MSc Organic Chemistry, University of Sualaimani-Iraq
3) BSc Chemistry, University of Sualaimani-Iraq
Srood, a native of Sulaymaniyah-Kurdistan Region-Iraq, was obtained his undergraduate degree (BSc in Chemistry) in 2002 from (chemistry department- college of science-University of Sulaimani) in the Kurdistan Region-Iraq. He then worked for three years as a researcher and lab demonstrator in chemistry department-University of Sulaimani. Srood remained in the same University (UoS), he obtained his MSc in Organic Chemistry (2007) on a project concerned to synthesis and characterization of organic semi-conductors. Later on, Srood was joined the academic staff of the Chemistry Department and appointed as assistant lecturer of organic chemistry. Srood worked as a practical and theoretical lecturer of organic and general chemistry in various colleges in the (UoS) such as: colleges of medicine, pharmacy, veterinary, agriculture, science and education.
Srood obtained PhD offer letter from the University of Manchester (UoM) and he obtained PhD degree in biological chemistry (2017). This research was involved on developing green and successful methodology of radical rearrangement reaction for synthesising hindered biaryls and hetro-biaryls. On the other hand, we worked with our collaborator in the University of Manchester to reveal some important evidences about the existence of putative bromodomain or bromodomain-like structure in Pre-mRNA splicing. This based on a comparative bioinformatics analysis combined with x-ray crystallographic studies of bromodomain-isoxazole interactions.
Research area:
1) Synthetic Chemistry
Organic and Inorganic Synthesis, Green Catalysis, Photoredox Catalysis, Nanomaterials, Spectroscopy, Natural Products.
2) Improving Materials
Polymer Science, Composites, Nano-composites, and Films, Improving physicochemical properties of materials, and Optical behaviors.
3) Biological & Medicinal Chemistry:
Drug Design, pre-mRNA splicing.
Designing a systematic model of small molecules for studying biological activity, including determination structure–activity relationship (SAR).
Interpretation of bioinformatics and blast search outcomes to find small molecules for inhibiting certain protein.
Analysis of protein-drug interactions by using x-ray crystallography.
Measuring antimicrobial and cytotoxicity of the drugs.
