Welcome to a new school year!

I’d like to take a moment to introduce myself. My name is Melissa Cachú-Caro, but I prefer to be called Sra. Cachú. This summer, I had a wonderful mix of work and fun—I taught summer school, spent time at the beach, read some great books, and went to the county fair It was a busy but relaxing break!

This is my fifteenth year at UPCS and my eighteenth year teaching overall. I’m thrilled to continue working at such an amazing school, and I feel honored to get to know a new group of students while reacquainting myself with former ones. I look forward to watching their Spanish skills grow and flourish during the school year.

Although I’ve spent the majority of my teaching career in elementary school, I do have some experience with middle school. In fact, my very first year of teaching was as an 8th-grade Language Arts and U.S. History teacher. Even though that was some time ago, I have wonderful memories from that year. Some might wonder why I made such a big shift from teaching 2nd and 3rd grade to 7th grade, but after 14 fulfilling years with younger students, I felt ready for a new challenge. I’m very excited about this next adventure and the opportunity to grow alongside my students.

A little about my background: I earned bachelor’s degrees in both Liberal Studies and Spanish from Azusa Pacific University. I then received my teaching credential from CSU Channel Islands. Most recently, I completed a Master’s in Education Administration from Grand Canyon University.

I’m very excited to work with you and your child this year. Here’s to a fantastic school year ahead!

¡Bienvenidos a un nuevo año escolar! 

Me gustaría tomar un momento para presentarme. Me llamo Melissa Cachú-Caro, pero prefiero que me llamen Sra. Cachú. Este verano fue una combinación maravillosa de trabajo y diversión: enseñé en la escuela de verano, pasé tiempo en la playa, leí algunos libros excelentes y fui a la feria del condado. ¡Fue un descanso ocupado pero relajante!

Este es mi decimoquinto año en UPCS y mi decimoctavo año enseñando en total. Estoy muy emocionada de seguir trabajando en una escuela tan increíble y me siento honrada de conocer a un nuevo grupo de estudiantes mientras me reencuentro con algunos de años anteriores. Espero con entusiasmo ver cómo sus habilidades en español crecen y florecen durante el año escolar.

Aunque he pasado la mayor parte de mi carrera en la escuela primaria, también tengo algo de experiencia en la escuela intermedia. De hecho, mi primer año como maestra fue enseñando Artes del Lenguaje e Historia de los Estados Unidos en 8.º grado. Aunque eso fue hace algún tiempo, tengo recuerdos maravillosos de ese año. Algunos podrían preguntarse por qué hice un cambio tan grande de enseñar 2.º y 3.º grado a enseñar 7.º, pero después de 14 años satisfactorios con estudiantes más pequeños, sentí que estaba lista para un nuevo desafío. Estoy muy emocionada por esta nueva aventura y la oportunidad de crecer junto a mis estudiantes.

Un poco sobre mi educación: obtuve mis títulos de licenciatura en Estudios Liberales y Español en Azusa Pacific University. Luego, recibí mi credencial de enseñanza de CSU Channel Islands. Más recientemente, completé una Maestría en Administración Educativa en Grand Canyon University.

Estoy muy emocionada de trabajar con usted y su hijo/a este año. ¡Que tengamos un año escolar fantástico!

What to expect this year... 

In our 7th-grade classroom, we continue to build on the skills students have developed to help them grow as independent and responsible learners. This year, students will be encouraged to take more ownership of their learning and begin practicing the time management and organization skills they’ll need in the future. Families and students can expect an increase in academic expectations as we introduce a more rigorous pace and greater responsibility to prepare for success in the upper grades.

In addition, we will continue to grow our Spanish language and learning through reading, writing, speaking, and listening activities that deepen students’ understanding and confidence in using the language daily.

Qué pueden esperar este año...

En nuestra clase de 7.º grado, continuaremos desarrollando las habilidades que los estudiantes han adquirido para ayudarlos a crecer como aprendices independientes y responsables. Este año, se alentará a los estudiantes a que tomen mayor responsabilidad sobre su propio aprendizaje y comiencen a practicar habilidades de manejo del tiempo y organización que necesitarán en el futuro. Las familias y los estudiantes pueden esperar un aumento en las expectativas académicas, ya que introduciremos un ritmo más riguroso y mayores responsabilidades para prepararlos para tener éxito en los grados superiores.

Además, continuaremos desarrollando el idioma español a través de actividades de lectura, escritura, expresión oral y comprensión auditiva que profundicen la comprensión y la confianza de los estudiantes al usar el idioma en distintas materias.
