Hello!
My name is Paola Martinez, and I am the sixth grade Spanish Language Arts and History teacher for our Dual Language program!
If we have not had the pleasure of meeting yet, please allow me to share a little about myself. This is my third year at UPCS, and my thirteenth year as an educator. Born and raised bilingual, I have taught dual language grades 3 through 8 in both the windy city of Chicago and sunny San Diego. I received my Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a Master of Education in Learning Technologies from National Louis University. Outside of teaching, I enjoy spending time with my son (I am a new mom!), husband, and shih tzu; caring for my plants; reading novels; playing family games like Rummikub and Uno; and exploring local food spots.
Middle school is a significant transition to deeper and more independent learning, often bringing its own challenges and rewards. My expectations are high, reflecting the increased emphasis on grades and accountability at this level. I believe in each student’s potential and am committed to guiding them towards success. However, it is essential for students to take responsibility for their learning. While I will provide support and encouragement, I also expect students to actively participate and manage their time effectively.
I look forward to getting to know your child beyond their academic achievements, including their passions, personality, strengths, and hidden talents. Rest assured, your child will receive kindness and respect from me, along with lessons in accountability and time management.

¡Hola!
Mi nombre es Paola Martinez, y soy la maestra de Artes del Lenguaje en Español e Historia de sexto grado para nuestro programa de Doble Inmersión.
Si aún no hemos tenido el placer de conocernos, permítanme compartir un poco sobre mí. Este es mi tercer año en UPCS y mi décimotercer año como educadora. Nací y crecí bilingüe, y he enseñado grados de doble inmersión del 3 al 8 tanto en la ventosa ciudad de Chicago como en la soleada ciudad de San Diego. Recibí mi Licenciatura en Ciencias en Educación Primaria de la Universidad de Illinois en Urbana-Champaign y una Maestría en Educación en Tecnologías de Aprendizaje de la Universidad Nacional Louis. Fuera de la enseñanza, disfruto pasar tiempo con mi bebé (¡soy mamá reciente!), esposo y shih tzu; cuidar de mis plantas; leer novelas; jugar juegos familiares como Rummikub y Uno; y explorar lugares locales para comer.
La escuela secundaria es una transición significativa hacia un aprendizaje más profundo e independiente, a menudo trayendo sus propios desafíos y recompensas. Mis expectativas son altas, reflejando la mayor importancia de las calificaciones y la responsabilidad a este nivel. Creo en el potencial de cada estudiante y estoy comprometida a guiarlos hacia el éxito. Sin embargo, es esencial que los estudiantes asuman la responsabilidad de su aprendizaje. Mientras que brindaré apoyo y motivación, también espero que los estudiantes participen activamente y gestionen su tiempo de manera efectiva.
