Biography

Eeswaran, currently a Senior Lecturer in Agronomy at the Department of Agronomy, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Jaffna, Sri Lanka. His research interests are agronomy, agricultural climatology, climate risk management, crop physiology, crop modelling, data science in agriculture and long-term agricultural experiments.

Eeswaran earned his Ph.D. in Crop and Soil Sciences from the Department of Plant, Soil and Microbial Sciences, Michigan State University (MSU), USA in December 2020. He also specialized in Ecological Food and Farming Systems at MSU. As a doctoral candidate at Michigan State University (2017-2020), he won several awards and competitive fellowships from MSU and other funding agencies in the United States. In addition, Eeswaran served as a graduate student board member of the Crop Science Society of America (CSSA) for the period of 2019-2021.

After the completion of PhD, he was hired as a Research Associate for a USAID funded project on Digital Geospatial Farming Systems Tools Consortium by the Department of Biosystems and Agricultural Engineering, Michigan State University. In March 2021, he joined as a Lecturer in Crop Science at the Department of Crop Science, Faculty of Agriculture, Eastern University, Vanthaarumoolai, Sri Lanka and served in this position until he was recruited by University of Jaffna in June 2022. 

During his doctoral studies (2017-2020), Eeswaran has functioned in the roles of Teaching Assistant (TA) and Graduate Research Assistant (GRA) at Michigan State University. Furthermore, he was employed as a Graduate Research Assistant at the Postgraduate Institute of Agriculture, University of Peradeniya (2013-2016) and as an Assistant Lecturer at the Department of Crop Science, University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka (2012-2013).

He earned his M.Phil. (Crop Science) and B.Sc. (Agricultural Technology and Management) degrees from University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka.
