The Department participated in the Provincial Agricultural Exhibition – 2026 held at the District Agricultural Training Centre (DATC), Oddusuddan, Mullaitivu. The departmental stall was coordinated and arranged to showcase research and practical knowledge, while providing explanations and demonstrations to visitors, enhancing outreach and public engagement.
The Farmer–Research Dialogue Program - 2026
The Farmer–Research Dialogue Programme was successfully conducted with active participation from farmers, students, and staff. The programme facilitated the identification of key agricultural challenges and enabled discussions on possible solutions and research directions, thereby strengthening the connection between academic research and community needs.
The 32nd batch of special students has successfully completed their research projects, demonstrating their ability to apply theoretical knowledge to practical research. Their work contributes to the academic strength of the department and highlights the successful completion of their undergraduate research training.
The Department of Agricultural Biology proudly took part in the Yarl Geek Challenge (YGC) 2025, organized by Yarl IT Hub on the 29th and 30th of August.
Over the two days, our students and staff came together to showcase innovative products, processes, and ideas. The experience, though demanding, was filled with energy and enthusiasm. Their teamwork and commitment, coupled with the joy of interacting with school students and the general public, made our participation truly rewarding. The Department of Agricultural Biology successfully conducted a Laboratory Orientation Program for final-year students on 23rd June 2025 at the JICA Laboratory (PPL).
The program was organized to prepare students for their upcoming undergraduate research projects by strengthening their understanding of laboratory safety protocols, good laboratory practices, equipment handling, and research documentation standards. The interactive orientation provided students with valuable insights and practical knowledge, ensuring they are better equipped to begin their research journey with confidence, safety, and responsibility.
The Department of Agricultural Biology successfully organized a Hands-on Training Program on Plant Tissue Culture from 24th February to 5th March 2025, with the participation of academic staff, researchers, and final-year undergraduate students.
The program was conducted under the guidance of Prof. Hiroyuki Kohara, PhD, Professor, Department of Agri-Environmental Sciences, Tamagawa University, Japan, who joined the department as a Japanese Short-term Expert under the JICA–PRECIDA initiative.
