APPLICATE

Assessing Public Policy effectiveness in minimising Local Impacts with Climate-related AdapTation Expenditures

Progetto di Ricerca di Interesse Nazionale (PRIN 2022)

[Progetto: 202252P92X, CUP: H53D23002170006]

The project

APPLICATE proposes a research design based on ex-post quantitative analyses dedicated to addressing the multiple channels through which change in climatic conditions and the related increase in frequency and magnitude of extreme events might impact the socio-economic systems at the local scale

The project focuses on Italy, accounting for downscaled geographical resolutions and local cross-sectoral propagation effects. The support for and success of public policies that underpin the transition to climate neutrality while providing adaptation solutions to climate-related stress depend critically on how the costs and benefits faced by society will be distributed among and perceived by the involved stakeholders.

Together with an accurate monitoring of physical and socio-economic impacts associated to the climate challenges, APPLICATE will also provide quantitative-based solutions to assess the effectiveness of public actions depending on the local characteristics, including the structure of the labour market, the accountability of local governance forces and stakeholders’ behaviour in cooperating for a successful adaptation strategy, and the potential spillover effects that may be exploited to minimise the cost of action.
