The BIOGOV Postgraduate Specialization Programme
The “Biodiversity Governance: Nature 2000 Expert (BIOGOV)” is an international postgraduate advanced specialization programme open to EU citizens and funded under the EU LIFE Programme “TraiN2K”. BIOGOV aims to provide advanced knowledge and professional competencies in biodiversity governance, nature conservation, and ecological restoration within a European and global framework aligned with the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the EU Nature Restoration Law. The programme is designed to train 20 highly qualified professionals from across Europe to operate effectively within Natura 2000 sites and other protected areas. The curriculum addresses key topics including protected-area management, biodiversity monitoring and restoration, conservation planning and measures, environmental policy, stakeholder engagement, and environmental education. BIOGOV offers advanced scientific knowledge and practical skills related to ecological processes, sustainable natural resource management, biodiversity monitoring, and the application of modern analytical and environmental assessment techniques. Graduates will be equipped to contribute effectively to the governance, conservation, and restoration of Natura 2000 sites and other ecologically significant protected areas.

The BIOGOV Master is fully financed under the EU LIFE Programme “TraiN2K”.

BIOGOV employs a blended teaching modality combining online learning with in-person practical field activities in protected areas.
Six online courses delivered through synchronous and asynchronous learning activities on the e-learning platform, integrating live lectures, recorded lessons, discussion forums, and digital teaching materials.
Two months of in-person field activities (May-June) conducted in Italian State Nature Reserves managed by the Carabinieri Forestali Biodiversity Group, focusing on biodiversity monitoring, effective protected-area management, and applied conservation and restoration practices.

The qualification awarded corresponds to Level 8 of the European Qualifications Framework (EQF), in accordance with the third cycle of the Bologna Process.
The programme is open to all European citizens holding a Master of Science degree, an equivalent second-cycle university qualification awarded by an accredited higher education institution. Applicants will be selected based on the evaluation of their curriculum vitae and motivation letter, focusing on the coherence of their background with the Master programme's objectives.
