Prof. Gabriele Chilosi is a plant pathologist at the "Crop Protection Lab" of DIBAF. Current work involves the use of sustainable management tools for the optimization of crop production and prevention of soil-borne and aerial diseases in horticulture (melon, tomato, potato, brassicas), cereal (durum wheat), and grapevine by a circular and agroecological approach. In particular, the research interests are focused on the implementation of sustainable measures in the crop production chains to increase soil fertility and prevent plant diseases by the use of compost and green manure as well as minimum tillage. This study includes the analysis of soil microbial population functionality and mycorrhizal symbiosis. The molecular mechanisms that regulate host-pathogenic-beneficial interactions, and in particular, mechanisms regulating the induced resistance are also included in the research interest.
