PPM, Quo Vadis?

Challenges and Future Directions of the Predictive Process Monitoring Research Field

Even if not a full-fledged “winter”, we are surely witnessing a relative stagnation of the PPM research field, with research results mainly incremental and heavy borrowing problems and solutions from the broader machine learning field. In this talk, I will analyse the research challenges and future directions of the PPM research field, based on a work recently published, in which a set of challenges and directions have been identified and validated by research experts. After having defined the possible future of the PPM field,  I will also argue for a discrepancy between where the field of PPM appears to be going and where it should probably go to play a more valuable role in the industrial process mining landscape.
