Good Afternoon Cedar Families,

It is hard to believe we are at the end of the 23-24 school year.  Although there will be two new administrators next year I know all the students and families will be in great hands.  Mrs. Christina Mables will be our new Principal and Mrs. Yesica Jones will be the Assistant Principal.  Both have been really involved already getting to know our students and staff.  They will be AMAZING in their new roles.

 During the final week, teachers have several activities planned so we hope to see all students in attendance.  In addition, Monday will be  our annual Play Day.  We will also be having a hot dog picnic lunch for students and staff.  On Tuesday, we have invited back the 2024 seniors that went to elementary school at Cedar Ridge.  We look forward to seeing them as they parade through our hallways for the final time.  We will all be cheering them on!

This will be the final parent communication for the 23-24 school year.  I hope all of you have a wonderful summer break.  Please make sure to have your student take time to read, write and look for ways to incorporate math in normal household duties, such as cooking.  Also, please make sure you have completed the online registration process.  This will help us ensure we have enough staff to support all students.  You can do the registration and wait to pay the fees until August.  Our walk-in registration will be held on July 30th from 3-6 PM.  You do not need to attend this if you register online prior to this date.  

As my time at Cedar Ridge Elementary comes to a close, I want to express my deepest gratitude to all the families and students who have made my time here so rewarding. It has been an honor to serve as your principal,  and I am confident that the spirit of excellence and community will continue to thrive in the years ahead.  As I have said daily for the last three years,                I love you.

Es difícil creer que estamos al final del año escolar 23-24. Aunque habrá dos nuevos administradores el próximo año sé que todos los estudiantes y las familias estarán en buenas manos.  La Sra. Good Afternoon Cedar Families,

I hope you are having a fabulous week.  First, thank you to all the families that made our Staff Appreciation Week a huge success.  Staff enjoyed the breakfast on Monday, food truck on Tuesday, Kona Ice on Wednesday, snack delivery on Thursday and the Nacho Bar on Friday.  It was all AMAZING and we appreciate your support so much.  As the school year is concluding, we still have a lot to accomplish.  Fifth grade promotion is on Friday, May 17th and will start promptly in the gym at 12:45.  We also have Play Day on Monday, May 20th.  If you have some time to come in and volunteer please sign up using this link: Play Day Help.  We will be having a FREE hotdog lunch for all staff and volunteers!  Thursday, May 23rd is our finally day of student attendance. Espero que estén teniendo una semana fabulosa.  En primer lugar, gracias a todas las familias que hicieron de nuestra Semana de Agradecimiento al Personal un gran éxito.  El personal disfrutó del desayuno el lunes, el camión de comida el martes, Kona Ice el miércoles, la entrega de bocadillos el jueves y el Nacho Bar el viernes.  Todo fue INCREÍBLE y agradecemos mucho todo su apoyo.  Como el año escolar está concluyendo, todavía tenemos mucho que lograr.  La promoción de quinto grado es el viernes 17 de mayo y empezará puntualmente en el gimnasio a las 12:45.  También tenemos el Día de Juego el lunes, 20 de mayo. I hope all of you have had an amazing week.  We have been so busy this week at Cedar Ridge.  Students in Grades 1-5 have completed their Spring Writing Assessment.  Also, many classes have also done their district math and reading assessment.  Next week we will conclude all Spring testing.  If you would like to have a copy of your student's academic process on district assessments for this school year please complete the following Google Form:  23-24 Student Assessment Data Request.  Also, next week we have an early release day on Wednesday, May 1st.  Students will be released at 10:45AM.  Also, on Friday, May 3rd students need to have their library books returned to the IMC.  Last, on Sunday, May 5th the district will be hosting their annual 5K at Maxwell Park.  The event starts at 2PM.  Please consider signing up:  https://runsignup.com/Race/IL/Normal/Unit5k

I hope this message finds you well. It is with mixed emotions that I share some significant news with you today. After much reflection, I have made the decision to leave my current role as Principal of Cedar Ridge at the end of this school year. I will be stepping into a new position for the Unit 5 School District as the Director of Human Resources.

It has been an honor and a privilege to serve as your principal, working alongside our dedicated staff, supportive parents, and exceptional students. Over the years, I have witnessed the incredible growth and achievements of our school community, and I am very proud of all that we have accomplished together.

While I am excited about this new opportunity to contribute to the broader educational landscape within Unit 5 Schools, I will undoubtedly miss the daily interactions and relationships that I have cultivated here at Cedar Ridge. Please know that this decision was not made lightly, and I am confident that it is the right step for both my professional growth and the continued success of our school district.

I want to express my deepest gratitude to each and every one of you for your unwavering support and collaboration throughout my time as principal. Together, we have created an environment where students are encouraged to be safe, seen, heard, included and loved.  We work together to make sure they are exploring their passions, evolving into lifelong learners and embracing their individuality.

In closing, I want to thank you once again for your support, understanding, and partnership over the years. While I will miss seeing you on a daily basis, I am excited about the opportunities that lie ahead and remain deeply committed to the success and well-being of our students.

Espero que este mensaje les encuentre bien. Es con emociones encontradas que comparto algunas noticias significativas con ustedes hoy. Just a reminder, students do not have school tomorrow due to it being a Teacher's Institute. Students will return on Monday, April 15th.  Tomorrow is a Dine to Donate all day at Chuck E. Good Afternoon Cedar Families,

I hope you are all having a great week and enjoying the warmer weather.  We have a lot to be thankful about at Cedar Ridge this week.  First, thank you to all that came out for McTeacher Night.  We had so much fun seeing our students and families away from school.  Also, thank you to those who attended Family Reading Night.  It was an AMAZING event and our students loved it!  Last, thank you for making our Book Fair amazing an creating memories that will last a lifetime.   

As we approach the final stretch of the academic year, I want to emphasize the importance of student attendance and finishing strong. Consistent attendance is key to academic success, as it ensures students remain engaged in their learning and have the opportunity to fully benefit from classroom instruction. As we head into the remaining week before Spring Break, I encourage you to reinforce the value of regular attendance with your child. Let's work together to ensure they attend each day. With your support, I am confident that our students will finish the year on a high note.

Espero que todos estén teniendo una gran semana y disfrutando del clima más cálido.  Tenemos mucho que agradecer en Cedar Ridge esta semana.  En primer lugar, gracias a todos los que vinieron para Noche McTeacher.  Nos divertimos mucho viendo a nuestros estudiantes y familias fuera de la escuela.  También, gracias a los que asistieron a la Noche de Lectura Familiar.  Fue un evento increíble y a nuestros estudiantes les encantó.  Por último, gracias por hacer nuestra Feria del Libro increíble y crear recuerdos que durarán toda la vida. 

A medida que nos acercamos a la recta final del año académico, quiero hacer hincapié en la importancia de la asistencia de los estudiantes y de terminar bien. La asistencia constante es clave para el éxito académico, ya que asegura que los estudiantes permanezcan comprometidos con su aprendizaje y tengan la oportunidad de beneficiarse plenamente de la instrucción en el aula. Good Afternoon Cedar Families,

I hope this message finds you all well. As we gear up for the upcoming state testing season, I wanted to take a moment to share some important information with you all. The Illinois Assessment of Readiness starts next week.  The assessment is given to all students grades 3-5.  There are three sessions of English Language Arts and three sessions of Mathematics.  The students will take a section each day until all testing is complete.  The assessments are done online and we will get results in October of 2024.  Please try to make sure your student gets a good nights rest, has breakfast and is in attendance.  We hope to conclude our testing on the last day before Spring Break.  Please reach out to me if you have any questions.  My email is rogersh@unit5.org or you can call the main office at 309-557-4413.

Next, we have two fun, family events coming up next week.  On Tuesday, March 12th we will have our Spring McTeacher night at our local McDonalds.  The event is from 5-7.  Please considering bringing out your family.  Staff will be serving and greeting our guest.  Then, on Thursday, March 14th we will have our annual reading night.  We have a local author and illustrator coming to share their story.  Also, our Young Author books will be on display.  In addition, there will also be a FREE hotdog dinner served.  We will start at 5:00PM and the event will conclude at 6:30PM.  During this time our Book Fair will also be opened in the IMC.  Don't forget to set up your student's eWallet account for cashless, stress-less shopping. Good Afternoon Cedar Families,

Registration for all returning students is now opened for the 24-25 school year.  Please consider registering your student right away so we can ensure we have enough staffing to start the school year successfully.  You are not obligated to pay the fees at this time.  You just need to submit the application.  Information on registration can be found at the following link: https://www.unit5.org/domain/3401.  Please call our office if you need your username or password reset.  The office number is 309-557-4413.

Kindergarten Preview will be on March 6th.  There are two sessions.  You only need to attend one with your incoming Kindergartener. The morning session starts at 9AM and the afternoon session will be at 1PM.  Kindergarten teachers will be doing some screenings and we also have a gift for your child.  If you know anyone in your neighborhood that has an upcoming kindergartner please help us spread the word.  They can call our front office to get more information.

Also, remember there is NO SCHOOL on Monday and Tuesday of next week.  Monday we are out due to President's Day and on Tuesday we have a district School Improvement Day.  Class will resume on Wednesday, February 21st.  We hope you enjoy the long weekend with your family and friends.

In addition, our Spring Fundraiser starts today.  The information should be in your child's backpack.  The fundraiser will run until March 4th.  The pick up date for the fundraiser items is set for Tuesday, March 19th.

Finally, we are getting ready for a busy March.  Kindergarten Preview will be on March 6th.  There will be two sessions.  The morning session starts at 9AM and the afternoon session will be at 1PM.  If you have a upcoming kindergartener please  plan on attending and make sure to bring your child.  Kindergarten teachers will be doing some screenings and we also have a gift for your child.  If you know anyone in your neighborhood that has an upcoming kindergartner please help us spread the word.  They can call our front office at 309-557-4413 to get more information.

I hope this weekly communication finds you well.  We have several upcoming events which are listed above.  We are also looking for parents who are interested in being a part of the Promise Council "Shout Out" list.  Promise Council is an organization that helps support Cedar students and families.  They might provide clothing, food, toiletries, etc. when the need arises.  We we see a need typically we do what is called a "Shout Out".  We email families that are a part of the group and see if they are interested in donating.  Sometimes people bring in items or send in a monetary donation.  If this is something you are interested in being a part of please complete the following Google form: Promise Council Shout Out Group Sign Up

I trust this message finds you well. I wanted to take a moment to express my sincere appreciation for the support you have provided during our eLearning days this week.  Your willingness to adapt to the challenges of remote learning has played a crucial role in creating a positive and productive virtual learning environment for our students.  We understand the challenges that come with eLearning, and your positive attitude and flexibility have been invaluable.  

Next week we have several exciting events.  On Monday, we have a Dine to Donate at Monical's Pizza.  If you take your coupon to one of the three Monical's Pizza locations, they will donate 20% of your bill back to Cedar Ridge.  The flyer should be in your student's backpack or Friday folder today.  Then, on Wednesday we are celebrating as a whole school community our 100th Day of School.  Students are encouraged to wear neon clothes and sunglasses for this event.  Last, Friday is an Early Release day and students will be dismissed at 10:45.

Last, this week the staff conducted Winter Data Day.  This is a time each grade level comes together and looks at assessment scores and student growth.  If scores are in the "warning" range we then look at putting in more academic support with interventions.  Intervention letters will be in students' backpacks if they qualified.  Please make sure to look!  If you have any questions I would be happy to talk more.  My number is 309-557-4413 or you can email me at rogersh@unit5.org

La próxima semana tenemos varios eventos emocionantes.  El lunes, tenemos un Cenar para Donar en Monical's Pizza.  Si usted lleva su cupón a una de las tres ubicaciones de Monical's Pizza, ellos donarán 20% de su cuenta a Cedar Ridge.  El volante debe estar en la mochila de su estudiante o en la carpeta del viernes hoy.  Entonces, el miércoles celebraremos como una comunidad escolar entera nuestro 100 Día de Escuela.  Se anima a los estudiantes a usar ropa de neón y gafas de sol para este evento.  Por último, el viernes es un día de salida temprana y los estudiantes serán despedidos a las 10:45.

Good Afternoon Cedar Families,

It is hard to believe we are already halfway through the month of January.  Students are working hard getting back into the routine.  This week went by quick with the cold day on Tuesday.  Devices will be coming home today.  This is just a precaution in case the weather is bad on Monday.  Students should always bring their devices back to school the next day.  These are the same devices they use in the classroom to complete independent work throughout the day.  

The 5 Essential survey is coming out soon.  The Illinois State Board of Education anticipates families will receive their link around January 22nd.  This survey is completed by parents, staff and 4th/5th grade students.  The results of the survey are reviewed each year by the school leadership team.  The team uses the data to implement new activities that will strengthen our school system.  Last year, Cedar Ridge, received the rating of WELL-ORGANIZED, which is the highest level.  I hope everyone will take the time to complete the survey.  Once it opens next week I will text everyone the link.  Thank you in advance for your feedback.

Next week is the last week to submit Young Author's book.  Please encourage your student to submit a book.  The books can be any genre and they can be typed or handwritten. We are hoping to submit at least 50 books from Cedar Ridge this school year.

Last, Diversity Club starts up again next Monday, January 22nd.  If you student is a part of this club they will be meeting in the IMC after school with Ms. Jordan.

Parece mentira que ya hayamos pasado la mitad del mes de enero.  Los estudiantes están trabajando duro para volver a la rutina.  Esta semana pasó rápido con el día frío del martes.  Los dispositivos volverán a casa hoy.  Esto es sólo una precaución en caso de que el tiempo es malo el lunes.  Los estudiantes siempre deben traer sus dispositivos a la escuela al día siguiente.  Estos son los mismos dispositivos que utilizan en el aula para completar el trabajo independiente durante todo el día.

La encuesta 5 Essential saldrá pronto.  La Junta de Educación del Estado de Illinois anticipa que las familias recibirán su enlace alrededor del 22 de enero.  Esta encuesta es completada por los padres, el personal y los estudiantes de 4to/5to grado.  Los resultados de la encuesta son revisados cada año por el equipo de liderazgo de la escuela.  El equipo utiliza los datos para implementar nuevas actividades que fortalecerán nuestro sistema escolar.  El año pasado, Cedar Ridge, recibió la calificación de BIEN ORGANIZADO, que es el nivel más alto.  Espero que todos se tomen el tiempo para completar la encuesta.  Una vez que se abre la próxima semana voy a texto a todos el enlace.  Gracias de antemano por su comentarios!

Good Afternoon Cedar Families,

Happy New Year!!  I hope all of you had an amazing winter break.  It is hard to believe we are already half way done with January.  This week we have spent time reconnecting and  reestablishing our classroom rules and routines.  We also finished up our Winter assessments.  Just a reminder that on Monday, January 15th we do not have school and classes will resume on Tuesday, January 16th.  Also, Young Author's books are due on January 26th.  I am hopefully we will have a lot of entries this school year.  Our school goal is to submit 50 books!  If you student has started a book please encourage them to finalize it and get it turned in right away.  In addition, the Kindergarten Preview date is set for Wednesday, March 6th.  More information will follow but if you have an incoming kindergartener please complete the survey above.  This will help us with secure the appropriate number of teachers for the 2024-25 school year.

Just a reminder that students should not have their devices out on the bus in addition to not having them on in class.  Even if you've talked to your kids about screen-time limits and responsible online behavior, it's still really tough to manage what they do when you're not there (and even when you are). Parental controls can support you in your efforts to keep your kids' internet experiences safe, fun, and productive. They work best when used openly and honestly in partnership with your kids. As we look forward to the upcoming months, we are excited about the educational journey ahead and the accomplishments that await our students. Together, let's make 2024 a year filled with growth, achievements, and memorable experiences.

¡¡Feliz Año Nuevo!!  Espero que todos hayan tenido unas vacaciones de invierno increíbles.  Es difícil creer que ya estamos a mitad de enero.  Esta semana hemos pasado tiempo reconectando y restableciendo nuestras reglas y rutinas de clase. También terminamos nuestras evaluaciones de invierno.  Sólo un recordatorio de que el lunes, 15 de enero no tenemos escuela y las clases se reanudarán el martes, 16 de enero.  También, los libros de Autor Joven tienen fecha de entrega el 26 de enero. Espero que este año tengamos muchas inscripciones.  Nuestro meta es presentar 50 libros.  Si su estudiante ha comenzado un libro por favor anímelos a finalizarlo y entregarlo de inmediato.  Además, la fecha de vista previa de Kindergarten está fijada para el miércoles, 6 de marzo. Más información vendrá pronto, pero si usted tiene un niño de kindergarten entrante por favor complete la encuesta anterior.  Esto nos ayudará a asegurar el número adecuado de maestros para el año escolar 2024-25.

As we conclude 2023 and prepare to break for the winter holiday, I want to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude to all who help make Cedar Ridge Elementary an amazing place to be.  We are a community with many gifts and talents, which we share daily with one another and most important, our students. From the classroom, to our living room and all points in-between, our collective efforts to raise the whole child are filled with passion, commitment and a willingness to make decisions that may be hard in the present, but will have a positive and lasting influence in the future for all.  

Parents, of course, are such a critical part of all we hope to accomplish on behalf of our Rockets.  I am grateful to you for masterfully doing what I know firsthand is the hardest, most rewarding and joyous job of all. Thank you for entrusting us with your most precious gift. I am grateful to our wonderful, talented, creative, inquisitive, optimistic, resourceful and resilient students. Often, they make us laugh, sometimes they make us cry, but always they make us think.  Most of all, they make us better.  

In the spirit of this holiday season, I want to extend my thanks to all of you for everything that you do for our school. As we enjoy the upcoming holidays, it is my fervent wish that each of you receives and returns the seasonal bounty of blessings and good tidings that make these days truly special.   It is also during this time that I am reminded of my own good fortune to serve as the proud principal of Cedar Ridge Elementary. Indeed, my career as a public school educator has afforded me vast, varied and richly rewarding opportunities to teach and to learn from young people.   Of course, I believe the faces of our children best express the true meaning of this holiday season. They radiate a sense of unbridled enthusiasm, untainted hope and unabashed joy for life and the opportunities that await them. Thank you for all our parent volunteers that attended the ISU basketball game on Wednesday.  We all had an amazing time and look forward to making this an annual event.  Next week we are only here on Monday and Tuesday.  Thanksgiving Break starts November 22nd and students will not return to school until November 27th.  Starting December 4th, PTO will be providing the Penguin Patch Holiday Shop for students to have the opportunity to purchase small items for the holidays.  We are still looking for some volunteers.  If you  are available please sign up using this link:  Holiday Shop Sign Up

It is hard to believe we are already halfway through November and the holiday season is approaching quickly.  This upcoming week is very busy at Cedar Ridge.  First, we are kicking off Unstoppable Week.  Please make sure to read the article above to learn more about the lessons, spirit week and free resources.  Next, on Monday is a Dine to Donate at Culvers on Hershey Rd. in Bloomington.  Cedar Ridge Rocket Boosters will receive 15% of the purchases from 5-9 pm. Then, on Wednesday is our whole school field trip to ISU.  We look forward to attending the basketball game and sharing the day on the ISU campus.  Last, Thanksgiving Break starts November 22nd and students will not return to school until November 27th.  We hope our families enjoy this extended break.
