Corey Beirne is in his seventh year at Unit 5 and his 17th overall. Prior to coming to teach in Normal, Mr. Beirne was a high school and junior high band director in the Dee-Mack and Flanagan-Cornell school districts.
Mr. Beirne is an active local musician, playing trombone and tuba in several local jazz and classical musical groups. He also serves the community as an elected member of the McLean County Board.
Mr. Beirne believes strongly in the value of diverse musical experiences and brings his own experience as a performer and world traveller to the music classroom. Music from diverse genres and cultures will be prominently studied in all classes, as well as composition and performance through singing, playing instruments, and dance.
As a proud member of the District Equity Leadership Team and the Racial and Social Justice Committee, Equity and Inclusion are high priorities in Mr. Beirne's classroom. He is a proud ally of marginalized communities and is always seeking ways to support and nurture those whose voices have traditionally not been heard.
Above all, Mr. Beirne believes music is an inherently fun and accessible means of cultural and personal expression. Empowering all students to explore and expand their own perspective through music is the ultimate goal in Mr. Beirne's class.
