A Self-chartered, Christian-based Scouting Program

2211 Margret Wallace Rd, Matthews, NC 28105

We are Christian. We welcome people of all faiths, but we do emphasize Christian values and beliefs. Our unit number, 447, comes from Philippians 4:4-7, which reminds us to “Rejoice in the Lord always!” We rejoice because we trust in our Lord Jesus Christ, who is our guide and protector.

We support homeschooling. We were founded to serve the homeschool community by providing a place where homeschooled youth could enjoy the benefits of scouting together. Now, our Pack and Troops are no longer limited to families who homeschool, but we continue to reach out to the homeschooling community and share their belief that parents are best suited to choose the education path of their children.

We are family inclusive. We believe that the mission of scouting is best fulfilled when parents are involved. For this reason, we welcome and expect parental participation. We have tried to design our programs to involve the entire family.

Cub Scouts are at that magical age where everything is new and possible and, most importantly, fun. They build things and play with purpose. They make friends and learn to work together. The life lessons learned here not only transform today's Cub Scouts into tomorrow's Scouts, but also help form a foundation to embrace opportunity and overcome obstacles in life.

Boys have the unique opportunity to learn life long skills in Troop 447. We pride ourselves on being a boy led troop where the Scouts in our troop take an active and engaging role in planning, implementing and leading our scouting program. Through this program at 447, scouts learn skills such as knot tying, first aid, camping, cooking, and service to their community. They will also learn about and engage in multiple avenues of interest through the merit badge program and through rank advancement. Plus, they will get to do all this while making life-long friendships. Most importantly, our Scouts learn what it takes to be a servant leader - that is, a leader who is called not only to lead but to serve those who he leads with confidence, compassion, and a higher sense of purpose.
