Salerno is an ancient city, a Roman colony founded in 197 B.C., situated at the center of a wide gulf flanked by mountains.
From Salerno, the gateway to the Amalfi Coast (with its beauties such as Amalfi, Ravello, and Positano), it is possible to reach the archaeological sites of Pompei and Paestum in half an hour; in about an hour, it is possible to reach Naples, Sorrento, and the beginning of the Cilento National Park, which includes the beautiful seaside resorts of Castellabate, Acciaroli, Palinuro, and Marina di Camerota.
