The goal of the Doctoral Consortium is to provide a dedicated forum for PhD students to discuss their research ideas, challenges, and ongoing contributions with experienced HCI researchers and fellow doctoral candidates from the Mediterranean and international communities.
As a central activity of the Connecting Mediterranean Research and Communities event, the Doctoral Consortium aims to support the next generation of HCI researchers by fostering mentorship, knowledge exchange, and long-term collaborations across the Mediterranean region.
The Consortium provides participants with the opportunity to refine their research questions, discuss methodological approaches, receive constructive feedback, and reflect on the broader impact of their work. Through interaction with senior researchers and peers, students will be encouraged to develop their scientific perspective, strengthen their research identity, and build connections within the wider HCI community.
The Doctoral Consortium particularly encourages discussions around how Human-Computer Interaction can contribute to addressing Mediterranean societal challenges, including cultural diversity, sustainability, inclusive technologies, digital wellbeing, aging populations, smart cities, tourism, and community-centred innovation.
Participation

The Doctoral Consortium is open to PhD students worldwide at any stage of their doctoral journey.
Students in the early stages of their PhD are encouraged to present emerging research ideas, initial research questions, and methodological directions to receive feedback.
Students in later stages of their PhD are encouraged to discuss their research outcomes and future directions, receiving advice on strengthening their scientific contributions and communicating their work effectively.
Participation is particularly encouraged from students whose research explores HCI challenges connected to Mediterranean contexts, communities, and societal needs.
Format
Format
The Consortium will feature interactive research discussions where students will briefly present their work and engage in dialogue with mentors and peers. Each participant will have the opportunity to:
present their doctoral research trajectory;
discuss research challenges and open questions;
receive feedback from senior researchers;
exchange perspectives with other PhD students;
establish new collaborations within the Mediterranean HCI community.

Submission Types and Guidelines
Doctoral Consortium submissions should:
be in terms of short papers (6 pages + maximum 2 pages for references);
be submitted in PDF format;
be non-anonymized.
All submissions will be reviewed by members of the Doctoral Consortium Committee. Submitted papers must be in English and single-author.
Accepted contributions will also be included in the post-conference proceedings, to be published in the Springer LNCS series, in the form of short papers.
