Darkside Masterclass

The DarkSide masterclass is a set of lectures and exercises addressed to High School students. The first part of the Masterclass includes a lecture about Dark Matter and WIMPs and one about WIMP direct detection and the description of the Darkside experiment. These two lectures last in total 1 hour. The second part of the masterclass includes two exercises based on a dataset from the DarkSide 50 experiment: first the students have to study the position cuts by analyzing three events: reconstructing the position of the event interaction they can decide if the event can be accepted or rejected. The second exercise consists in the analysis a greater sample of events to construct the f90 vs S1 plot and look for candidate WIMP events: the students are asked to apply sequential cuts to the full sample, draw the f90 vs S1 plot and check if any event is in the nuclear recoil/WIMP region.

The tools for the exercise are Excel or Google Sheets.

A final discussion of the results (including selected talks by students) is foreseen at the end of the Masterclass.
