TECHNOLOGY

OVERVIEW

The Junior School Continuity of Learning Plan depends on several technologies that students, parents and teachers will need to use:

  • School provided Chromebook or iPad based on student's grade

  • WIFI connection

  • Seesaw/Schoology as the main tool to share videos, design activities, assign tasks, submit completed work, provide feedback

  • Zoom for face-to-face live instruction

  • Emails (for parents only because JS student do not have access to emails)

  • Dreambox, Razkids, Khan Academy and any other online learning resources as indicated in the teachers’ assignments

and more

DEVICE ESSENTIAL AGREEMENTS

Students have been provided with a Chromebook or iPad at the beginning of the school year. In the eventuality of school closure, in order to be able to be engaged in their learning while at home with a familiar device used frequently at school, students will begin bringing their Chromebook/iPad back and forth, from school to home and home to school. This is only in the circumstances of anticipating potential school closure. In any other circumstance, the devices remain at school.

Parents can opt for their child's Chromebook/iPad to remain at school if they can guarantee that their child will have access to a device listed above, during the full period of a school closure in order to have no interruption in learning. Parents will need to inform their homeroom teachers by email in this eventuality, to confirm that their child already has a recommended device for use at home and does not need to bring a Chromebook/iPad from school.

We encourage all families to review the Chromebook/iPad Agreement below. We also encourage parents to remind students that the UNIS Chromebook/iPad, if brought home, is strictly and solely dedicated to the learning activities designed by their teachers during school closure. The device cannot be used for any other purpose. The Junior School intention is to guarantee students' engagement in learning, the sole purpose for loaning the school device.

In order to support the goals aimed for in the Distance Learning Plan, usage of technology connected to the web is inevitable. We therefore encourage families to review with their children the Essential Agreements which support students' accountability for best use of technologies.
