The School of Aerospace Engineering, together with the Department of Statistical Sciences and the Department of History, Anthropology, Religions, Art, and Entertainment, has won the 2025 Third Mission Strategic Directions call with the project MISSIONE R³ – Recycling, Rockets, Stories: Plastic Towards the Stars!
The project combines environmental education, creativity, and aerospace science by engaging students in imagining innovative uses for recycled plastic in space. Through hands-on recycling activities, laboratory experiments, and educational rocket demonstrations, participants explore sustainability, scientific research, and the future of space technology.
With the Open Day event on October 11, 2025, the School of Aerospace Engineering presented the Starting II - Space Technologies Addressing Research Transfer Into Nowadays Generations initiative to families in the area and beyond. This was thanks to the work of the entire School team, which included experiments, open workshops, music, presentations by various figures from Sapienza University and the Lazio Region, and an interview with astronaut Andrea Patassa.
Promoted by the Sapienza School of Aerospace Engineering , with the support of ASI , Gruppo Astrofili Monti Lepini and Frascati Scienza , the project involved schools of all levels , university students, families, researchers and enthusiasts, transforming knowledge into shared experience.
We opened the doors of our laboratories, started chemical reactions, built comets, created space ice cream, and launched rockets. We offered hands-on experiences on optics, cosmic radiation, propulsion and aerospace robotics, simulations of interplanetary maneuvers, and a mini-laboratory to experience firsthand what happens in space.
