Stefano Battilotti was born in Rome, Italy. He received the M.S. degrees in Electronic Engineering and the Ph.D. degrees in System Engineering in 1987 and, respectively, in 1991 from Sapienza University of Rome with a M.S. thesis on the design of an architecture for high performance control using digital signal processing chips (supervisors G. Ulivi and F. Nicolò) and a Ph.D. thesis on the input-output noninteracting control problem with stability for nonlinear systems (supervisor A. Isidori). In 1992 he joined the Department of Computer, Control and Management Engineering ''Antonio Ruberti'' (DIAG), Sapienza University of Rome, as an assistant professor. Since 2005 he is a Professor of Automatic Control affiliated to the same Department.

His research interests are focused on estimation, filtering and control design for various types of nonlinear (ordinary, delay, stochastic and, more recently, partial) differential and networked systems.

I have studied many times // The marble which was chiseled for me-- // A boat with a furled sail at rest in a harbor. // In truth it pictures not my destination // But my life // For love was offered me and I shrank from its disillusionment; // Sorrow knocked at my door, but I was afraid; // Ambition called to me, but I dreaded the chances. // Yet all the while I hungered for meaning in my life. // And now I know that we must lift the sail // And catch the winds of destiny // Wherever they drive the boat. // To put meaning in one's life may end in madness, // But life without meaning is the torture // Of restlessness and vague desire-- // It is a boat longing for the sea and yet afraid. - (Spoon River Anthology, E. L. Masters)

I don't think we did go blind, I think we are blind, Blind but seeing, Blind people who can see, but do not see...Perhaps only in a world of the blind will things be what they truly are. - (Blindness, J. Saramago)
