is currently Assistant Professor (Researcher Tenure-Track) and Group Leader of the MoRe 3D lab at the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (DIMA) at the Sapienza University of Rome. Gianluca graduated (BSc and MSc) in Biomedical Engineering from Sapienza University of Rome and was awarded his PhD from the University of Southampton (sup. Prof Richard Oreffo and Prof Jon Dawson). Gianluca worked as research scientist and visiting scholar at Temple University (Philadelphia, USA) and TU Dresden (Germany), collaborating with international researchers and collected awards such as the prestigious EPSRC Doctoral Prize (2018) and AIRC ALDI Fellowship (2020). In 2019 Gianluca joined the Center for Life Nano- & Neuro-Science at the Italian Institute of Technology (IIT), contributing to the advancements of 3D bioprinting approaches for the fabrication complex tissue substitutes. Gianluca supervised more than ten MSc and five PhD students, and currently serving as Junior Fellow Sapienza School for Advanced Studies (SSAS).
Research Fellows and PhD students
is a PhD student in Industrial and Management Engineering at Sapienza University of Rome. She focused on advancing 3D bioprinting techniques using materials derived from decellularized bone and vascular matrices to promote bone regeneration in the OSTEOMIMIC project. Lucia is now interested in fabricating pathological 3D models focusing on musculoskeletal diseases.
is a PhD student at Sapienza University of Rome. Her work explores 3D bioprinting technologies and the development of advanced in vitro models of bone pain. Before joining Sapienza, she worked on microphysiological systems and biosensors in a biotech startup at Politecnico di Milano. Building on this experience, she will focus on the engineering of microfluidic-assisted 3D bioprinting systems for the creation of physiopathological models.
Master Students
is a MSc student in Biomedical Engineering at Sapienza University of Rome, working on her thesis project developing a viscoelastic microfluidic-assisted 3D bioprinting system for controlled single-cell encapsulation.
is a MSc student in Biomedical Engineering at Sapienza University of Rome, currently working on her master's thesis at the University of Greenwich, focusing on the development of time-resolved mineralisation studies on a bone-on-a-chip platform
is a MSc student in Biomedical Engineering at Sapienza University of Rome, working at the Heart Research Institute on a project focusing on biofabrication strategies for cardiac spheroids vascularisation towards implantable cardiac patches
is a MSc in Pharmaceutical Biotechnology at Sapienza University of Rome and now working at IIT on her MSc thesis to develop a novel cell density control system to produce functional skeletal tissue constructs.
is a MSc student in Industrial Chemistry at Sapienza University of Rome, working on biomaterials and bioinks for cellular agriculture and 3D bioprinting of animal muscular tissue as food substitution.
is a MSc student in Biomedical Engineering at Sapienza University of Rome, currently working at IIT lab in non-planar approaches for 3D bioprinting mimic blood vessels.
is a MSc student in Biomedical Engineering at Sapienza University of Rome, currently working at CÚRAM Research Centre (Ireland) on combining computer vision with microfluidic-assisted 3D bioprinter for continuous monitoring of tissue fabrication.
Is a MSc student in Biomedical Engineering at Sapienza University of Rome working on a 3D bone-on-a-chip engineering, using microgels based on microfluidics systems to in vitro mineralisation models
