Innovations in the
Numerical Treatment
of Stiff Differential Equations

INdAM's headquarters, Sapienza University of Rome

ABOUT THIS WORKSHOP

Mathematical models for the description of fluids, plasmas, and many other physical phenomena, are typically given in terms of stiff systems of ordinary and partial differential equations.

Numerical simulation of the dynamic evolution of systems of stiff differential equations is one of the most challenging tasks in scientific computing. With the increasing level of parallelization and performance of computing machines, more ambitious computations become possible, and the need for efficient, high order accurate and structure preserving numerical methods, in space and in time, becomes more pressing. Innovations in the numerical treatment of stiff problems allow significant improvements in efficiency of simulations and finer resolutions in applications ranging from weather and climate modeling to numerical research.

This workshop brings together experts in the numerical treatment of ODE's and PDE's to bridge the gap between these two fields.
