On November 12, we downloaded from https://www.1522.eu/mappatura-1522/ all data on officially recognized anti-violence centers and support services (CAV) in Italy. We geolocated them (in about 15–20 cases, involving small municipalities, we were unable to pinpoint the exact location of the CAV and therefore imputed the missing information using the address of the municipal hall).
This allowed us to map all CAVs in Italy and calculate the distance of Italian municipalities from them, measured as straight-line (aerial) distance. Although this measure is not optimal, it provides a first approximation of territorial coverage. Specifically, we found that 13.1% of the Italian population does not have a CAV within 20 km (aerial distance). This value is considerably lower in the North (7.9% in the North-West and 10.1% in the North-East), close to the national average in the Center (12.6%), and significantly higher in the South (16.9%) and in the Islands (23.3%).
We plan to soon calculate travel-time distances, both by public transport and by car, to obtain a more accurate measure of accessibility to a CAV in different areas of the country.
