Building on the strong success and enthusiastic participation of its first edition, II Exploring New Frontiers in Drug Sciences returns for a second chapter. This symposium focuses on advancing research and partnerships in the field of drug sciences. The event features talks and panel discussions on cutting-edge research in drug sciences, covering topics such as medicinal chemistry, cell and molecular biology, and new drug delivery systems. It encourages partnerships that could lead to joint research projects, shared resources, and coordinated efforts in developing new therapies. Furthermore, the event serves as a vital platform for young researchers to expand their knowledge, learn from established experts, and build collaborative networks for their future work.

Hosted by the Department of Chemistry and Technology of Drugs at Sapienza University of Rome, the II edition of the Symposium will take place over one day featuring 6 keynote speakers, 2 flash presentations (selected from the submitted abstracts), and a poster session. The Organizing Committee is pleased to announce that two Best Poster Awards will be presented during the symposium. The awards are intended to recognize high-quality scientific contributions and to encourage rigorous research among participants. All PhD students and young researchers are invited to submit their contributions.

SPEAKERS

Prof. Musa Mhlanga

Radboud University

Prof. Musa Mhlanga is Full Professor of Cell Biology at the Cell Biology Department of Radboud Institute for Molecular Sciences. He works on gene regulation with a focus on single-cell and single-molecule biology. The core interest lies in nuclear architecture and the interplay of gene expression with coding and noncoding RNA. His research group uses several model systems, with a deeper focus on inflammation and immunity in recent years.

Dr. Andrej Trauner

Basilea Pharmaceutica

Dr Andrej Trauner is Project Leader at Basilea Pharmaceutica. He works in drug discovery and development, with a focus on anti-infective research and translational pharmacology. His core interests include the identification of novel therapeutic targets and the advancement of innovative small-molecule therapies addressing unmet medical needs.

Prof. Sandro Cosconati

University of Campania "Luigi Vanvitelli"

Prof. Sandro Cosconati is Full Professor of Medicinal Chemistry at the Department of Environmental, Biological and Pharmaceutical Sciences and Technologies at the University of Campania “Luigi Vanvitelli”. He is a computational medicinal chemist with long-standing experience in the application of advanced theoretical methods for the discovery of biologically active compounds. In particular, he is an internationally recognized scientist for his work on the development of virtual screening methods for the discovery of anticancer agents.

Dr. Simona Sennato

CNR-ISC

Dr. Simona Sennato is a researcher at the Institute for Complex Systems of the National Research Council. Her research activity focuses on the investigation of physico-chemical mechanisms driving the self-assembly of complex molecules and supramolecular structures in dispersions, with particular attention to charged soft colloids such as polymeric microgels and hydrogels, as well as nanostructured systems of biological interest. Her current main research interests include the exploitation of colloidal aggregation mediated by electrostatic interactions for the development of drug delivery systems.

Prof. Francesco Imperi

Roma Tre University

Prof. Francesco Imperi is Associate Professor of Microbiology at the Department of Science at Roma Tre University and Head of the Laboratory of Molecular Microbiology and Microbiomics at IRCCS Fondazione Santa Lucia. His main research interests include the identification and development of novel antibacterial compounds, the study of genetic determinants and molecular mechanisms underlying antibiotic resistance, and the development of bacterial biosensors for the identification of anti-virulence and antibiofilm drugs.

Dr. Giovanna Peruzzi

IIT

Dr. Giovanna Peruzzi is researcher at the Italian Institute of Technology (IIT) and is affiliated with the Center for Life Nano- and -Neuro- Science of Sapienza CLNS@Sapienza. Her research focuses on nanobiotechnology, bioengineering, and electronic interfaces for biological applications. Her scientific activity includes publications in peer-reviewed journals addressing topics such as cellular manipulation, the development of miniaturized bioreactors, and the investigation of ketogenic diet approaches in neurological disorders, with particular attention to inflammation and glial cell involvement.
