Constructing G2-Manifolds is a Perfectly Normal Way to Spend your Free Time
Manifolds with exceptional G2-holonomy are noteworthy not only to differential geometrists but to string theorists for their role in M-theory compactifications. To ensure the topic is accessible to the uninitiated, this talk will first provide a broad (and hopefully quick!) overview of the essential background machinery, reviewing core concepts such as principal bundles, geometric structures, and Berger's foundational classification. Aftwerwards, we will explore some recent developments in constructing G2-manifolds exhibiting a two/three-scale Riemannian collapse.
