The aim of the Astrophysics Journal Club is to share ideas and spread science between people from different groups and fields.
It is open to researchers, professors and master students. You can join either as a Speaker or as a Guest: Speakers are supposed to talk about a paper or their work, while Guests can only be part of the audience. Bachelor and master students not yet writing their thesis are only allowed to join as Guests. No one is forced to join as a speaker, but if you decide so, you are committed to give your presentation on the date indicated. If for any reason, you cannot give your talk, it is your responsibility to find a replacement. Master students are welcome to present their master thesis close to their discussion: this will help them in practicing their presentation and collecting feedback from a diverse audience.
The club is organized by research students: two students are responsible for the club with the support of all the others and academics. The two responsible students will change every 4 months and their names will be always visible in the Contacts page, for they have to take care of the communication.
The Astrophysics Journal club is to be held approximately every two weeks. Each meeting will last 1 hour and will be split in two. The first half will be dedicated to a discussion about a paper (first speaker), the second half to share personal work (second speaker). About the paper, it must be a paper published on arXiv no more than 6 months before the presentation, and the speaker must upload the .pdf version or the paper URL on this website, following the instructions in Materials, possibly at least a week before. The speaker can choose whatever paper he/she likes, but must present it in a way to be enjoyable for the diverse audience expected. About the personal work, one can give an update on his/her personal project, a fast update on his/her field or even ask for the audience help to solve a problem. Both presentations should not last more than 15-20 minutes.
The language of the talks will be English if any non-Italian speaker is present, Italian otherwise.
