IUSS brings in the expertise on seismic risk and loss estimation, assessment and retrofitting of existing structures, experimental testing, seismic assessment and design of non-structural elements, including steel storage pallet racks. In particular, the team at IUSS has carried out experimental shake-table tests of steel storage racks with a seismic isolation system and developed the first seismic direct displacement-based design (DDBD) for steel storage pallet racks.
University of Pavia provides a team experienced in numerical modelling, seismic assessment and experimental testing of non-structural elements and steel storage pallet racks; as well as structural optimisation for seismic design and structural stability. The team at the University of Pavia has conducted several experimental and numerical studies on the static and seismic behaviour of steel storage pallet racks.
Politecnico di Milano team has high expertise in the structural modelling of different steel structure types, such as: steel storage pallet racks, structures made by thin-walled steel members, bridges and residential buildings. In particular, the Politecnico di Milano team has worked on the static and seismic response of steel storage racks since 1998, contributing significantly to the development of the European standards for the design of racks.
University of Salento brings expertise in the development of seismic design procedures for non-structural elements as well as experimental testing of components and subassemblies of different typologies of non-structural elements. In particular, the coordinator of the research unit participated in a European project dealing with the development and testing of integrated low-damage technologies for structural and non-structural elements (SERA – Seismology and Earthquake Engineering Research Infrastructure Alliance for Europe).
Eucentre is a private non-profit foundation that pursues a mission of research, training and service provision in the field of earthquake engineering and, more generally, of risk engineering. Founded in 2005 as an evolution of the European Centre for Training and Research in Earthquake Engineering already active in Pavia since 2003, it was established by four Founders, the University of Pavia, the University School for Advanced Studies IUSS of Pavia, the Italian Department of Civil Protection, the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology, to further develop the scientific, research and training expertise in the sector present in Pavia. Today Eucentre has an important asset of experimental labs consisting of shaking tables able to reproduce any seismic event for testing both structural and non-structural elements and for the qualification of anti-seismic devices.
SACMA S.p.A. has been operating in the storage systems sector since 1952. With the creation of over 15000 storage plants Sacma boasts a complete productive array: from ordinary structures (pallet racks, mezzanines, drive-ins, cantilevers) to more complex and sophisticated plants (powered mobile racks, gravity systems, automated systems with storage and retrieval crones, satellite systems, silo warehouses).
